Sermon Notes - Filled to Overflowing with the Spirit of God

Filled to Overflowing with the Spirit of God!

Key Preaching Verses

1.  Acts 2.4:  “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”

2.  1 Corinthians 4.7:  “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.  There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.  There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.  Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”

3.  John 20.22:  “And with that Jesus breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’”

Sermon Summary

On the day of Pentecost, God’s Spirit pours out abundantly on the community of disciples.  Imagery of wind and fire ushers in the astounding proclamation of God’s power.  The Holy Spirit makes each child of God distinctive through the diversity of gifts bestowed.  >From this diversity the Spirit then weaves a community of faith, the Body of Christ – the church, with a diversity of persons and spiritual gifts.
