Sermon Notes - Jesus’ Sermon on What Will Last and What will Pass!

Jesus’ Sermon on

What Will Last and What will Pass!

Key Preaching Verses

Luke 21.5-7:  “Some of His disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said,  ‘As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.’  ‘Teacher,’ they asked, ‘when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?’”

Focus Questions

  • The primary task of a genuine Christian is not to build worldly kingdoms that do not last but the kingdom of God on earth!  In the life of the Church is your major focus on the structure and institution of the Church (for example, the Church’s buildings or the style of worship etc) or the total surrender of your life to the will and care of Jesus Christ?
  • In a ‘me-first’ society, it is difficult to comprehend the fact that all things including ourselves, will pass into history!  How do you feel about your own death and the reality that your place in history will be forgotten?  Does this reality help you to focus on the things that last, namely the kingdom of God that we need to employ in our everyday lives?
  • Do you truly trust Jesus?  Do you trust Jesus sufficiently to surrender your life into His will and care?

Take Home Challenge

  • Nothing gets up my nose quicker than extremist fundamentalists predicting the end of the world!  How would you answer someone making such an outrageous prediction?
