Sermon Notes - Living into God’s Promises!

Theme: Living into God’s Promises!

Key Preaching Verses

a)  Hebrews 11.1:  “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

b)  Luke 12.37:  Jesus said, “It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will make them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.”

Focus Questions

  • Where is your treasure?  Is your treasure in God or in the temptations of this world?
  • What is genuine faith?
  • What is authentic hope?
  • Why do you believe in God? What demands does this “believing” make on your life?
  • What does it mean to live into the assurance of faith, as we wait in hope for the fullness of the Reign of God?  What does your vision of God’s promised reign call you to do and be by faith?  Can you give practical examples of how you exercise your faith and hope in your family, your Church and your community?
  • An old Priest once said to me that a Christian must have his or her bags packed at all times and be ready to meet God.  Are your bags packed and are you ready to meet God?

Take Home Challenge

  • In the story I told at the beginning of my sermon, the peasant farmer declined the emperor’s offer.  He wanted to be blessed in doing what he wanted to do and not what the emperor wanted him to do...
  • I urge you not to be the peasant would be Christian, asking God to bless your will rather than God’s will for your life...
