Sermon Notes - Breakfast on the Beach with the Risen Jesus!

Key Preaching Verses

John 21.9-12aWhen they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. Jesus said to them, ‘Bring some of the fish you have just caught.’ So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, ‘Come and have breakfast.’”

Focus Questions

  • In what ways and through what people have you encountered the Risen Jesus?
  • What personal courage and faith is required of you to risk spiritual change and growth, especially in your places of brokenness?
  • Jesus asked Peter three times, “Do you love me?”  I believe Jesus asks this challenging question of each and every one of us!  Do you (and for that matter do I) love Jesus?  Words without actions are cheap!  What are your life behaviours that clearly demonstrate that you really love Jesus?
  • Jesus went on to say, “Feed my sheep!”  How do our personal experiences of the resurrected Jesus empower is to share in the ministry and work of Christ?
  • Is it possible to love Jesus and not feed His sheep?
  • How do you feed Jesus’ sheep?

Take Home Challenge:

James Collins in his book, “Good To Great And Built To Last” says that if any organisation is to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world, it must be prepared to change everything about itself, except its core beliefs!

  • What are Christianities core beliefs?
  • What are the things that need to change in the life of the Church to make the Gospel of Jesus Christ relevant to the modern world?
  • What prevents us from hearing what the Holy Spirit is saying to the contemporary Church?
  • What prevents us from changing those things that need to be changed to make us effective witnesses of Christ’s resurrection?
